WOC — THE NETWORK · October 31, 2026
Verified event/resource context with original WOC reflection. Teaching companions are WOC editorial material prepared for the Dr. Cole and Ms. Jordan experiences.
The National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., lists free admission on November 1, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern. General registration is recommended. A separate quilt-documentation activity requires advance registration; visitors should check the organizer’s page before making plans.
Our Network reflection: a quilt can hold more than warmth. It can bring a maker, a household and a season of life into view. Even far from Washington, we can ask who made the everyday things we treasure—and whose work we have learned to overlook.
Try a small gathering around one object: a quilt, recipe card, photograph or church program. Ask permission before recording its story. Let its owner decide what can be shared, and write down what is remembered separately from what is documented.
Dr. T.T. Cole · Teacher preparation
Teacher preparation: use an ordinary object to distinguish observation from interpretation. Ask learners what they can actually see, what a maker could explain, and what remains unknown. Connect the conversation to Acts 9:36–39 and the community’s remembrance of Dorcas’s work. The museum program is contemporary context, not evidence for a biblical interpretation.
Ms. Jordan · Book → Lesson → Real Life
Try this in ten minutes: read Acts 9:36–39, then invite each learner to name one useful act of care that often goes unnoticed. An invented example is welcome. Close by choosing one person to thank this week. No one needs to bring a private object or disclose a family story.
Gather around this
Bring one permission-cleared object or an invented example to your circle. Ask: whose care does this help us remember?
