A neighborhood can be a destination without losing sight of the people who make it one. Leimert Park Village organizers announced a First Saturdays series beginning October 3, with Black-owned businesses, food, music and cultural activities at its center.

The launch announcement lists a free gathering at 43rd Street and Degnan Boulevard in Los Angeles, with a plan to return on the first Saturday of each month. Organizers describe the series as preparation for increased attention before the 2028 Games; it is not an official LA28 program.

Our take: A recurring gathering gives people a reason to return, not simply visit once. For shoppers, that can mean learning the names behind the storefronts and making neighborhood spending a habit.

Future dates and participating businesses should be confirmed with organizers before traveling. We have not independently verified attendance or sales at the launch.
